Steve Laviers' Motivators collective return with their second release on the excellent Here And Now Recordings! Following on from the success of the first 12 (which included Jobu being licensed to the legendary "Jazz Bizniz" compilation series and a remix by Reverso 68) these new tracks continue in the vein of raw, live, polyrhythmic grooves.
On the A-side, "Boosters On" is a driving energy-packed track with the former Manu Dibango rhythm section of Noel Ekwabi and Conti Bilong being impressively complemented by Yam Who's Des Morgan on congas and bongos. Keys are provided by Afrika Mhkinse (who played with the late great Miriam Makeba) and Faze Action's multi-talented Rob Lee. Trombone is laid down by Tony "Trombony" Hayden who has played with numerous acts including Quantic Soul Orchestra. Last but by no means least, vocals come courtesy of Hannah Khemoh who has most recently been touring as backing vocalist for the incomparable Grace Jones!
On the flip, "R2" is a laid-back improvised afro-jazz session, with the musicians laying down some serious feel-good sounds. All this produced by Rob Lee in the Faze Action studio.
